POLICE AND CRIME COMMISSIONERS – TRANSPARENCY OVER FUNDING AND MEETINGS
There has been considerable interest in the funding of PCC candidates’ campaigns
nationally. There has also been discussions over Candidates meeting other
organisations, groups and most of all, private companies and lobbyists.
I will therefore disclose my funding streams for this campaign, and outline
any contacts with organisations, private companies or lobbyists.
MY DEPOSIT
I received sums of £500 and £1000 from personal friends, one lives in Dorset,
one lives in London.
I funded the remainder myself – £3,500
MY CAMPAIGN
I have received donations ranging from £1 to £250 from individuals who are
supporters, friends or both. The current total for this is £467.
I have spent about £2500 of my own money on the campaign.
My publicity, printing costs, and some flier delivery costs door
to door by hand (outside of Bournemouth and Poole) amounting
to £15,000 has been donated by Mark Constantine, the owner of Lush.
Mark runs an international Dorset based cosmetic business, and was one of six
Dorset people I approached back in the summer, seeking help in fighting my
campaign.
His business is not connected directly to the Police.
He does not expect anything in return, he just believes in the “little man” taking
on the Political Parties. He also believes that Party Politics should be kept out
of Policing.
Fliers in Bournemouth and Poole are being distributed by hand by volunteers
and friends.
Some fliers to the rest of Dorset are being distributed by hand by volunteers
and friends.
My postage costs, envelopes and labeling for some posted fliers have been donated
“in kind” by Dave Wells, a Dorset based businessman also living in Poole.
He does not expect anything in return, he just believes that Party Politics should
be kept out of Policing.
He has also written to his tenants supporting me.
I did not know Dave until two weeks ago. We met over the “Boscombe issue”.
I intend to work with Dave, other private landlords, and all
the other agencies, to address the deprivation issues of Boscombe. Boscombe is the
the most deprived area in the South West.
His business is not connected directly to the Police.

I have conducted a six month campaign, and as this list shows,
have held a massive amount of meetings. Any omissions are
genuine mistakes and are not deliberate.

So your campaign is almost entirely funded by two anonymous businessmen (not women?) and they wish to remain anonymous?
.
Surely you aren’t ashamed of one another?
Not at all, but why should I name when the others don’t? This is a one off election, I don’t have 800 paying members (Labour) or 4,000 paying members (Tory) to rely on, or ant way of reaching people for donations (election advertising started 6/10, 13 days before deposit due) How else would you fund it?
